The Halden pendant is built from stacked metal layers that step down over the light source. Light leaves through the gaps and off the underside of each tier, placing an even pool of light on the worktop while keeping the bulb out of view at eye level.
The proportions are Danish inspired: a wide, shallow dome with no decoration. The 19.7 inch size suits a kitchen island or long dining table, and a single unit often covers a run that would otherwise need two smaller pendants. The 11.8 inch size suits a breakfast bar or a smaller table, or can hang in a pair.
The shade is metal throughout, so kitchen heat and steam do not discolor it the way fabric or paper shades can. It wipes clean, the layered build leaves no flat top surface for dust to collect, and the drop is adjustable at installation.

Will one cover a whole kitchen island?
On an island up to about six feet long, one Halden centered over it is enough. Past that, two spaced evenly along the run give even light from end to end.
Will I see the bulb from across the counter?
That is the problem this shade is built to solve. The tiers step down over the light source, so at standing or seated eye level the lit metal shows rather than the bulb itself, and the light lands on the counter.
How do I clean it?
A dry or slightly damp cloth over the tiers is enough. It is metal throughout, so kitchen heat and steam do not mark it, and there is no flat top surface for dust to collect on the way there is with a drum shade.
